The Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba has advised football fans to stay away from public venues showing World Cup matches after a bomb attack killed at over 14 football fans and left 21 others wounded in Yobe state on Tuesday.
According to him, it is more profitable for them watching the global football showpiece with their loved ones in the comfort of their homes than exposing their lives to danger.
“As a first choice, we are advising Nigerians to actually avoid these viewing centres as much as possible” Mba told journalists in Abuja.
Mba affirmed that individual states were within their rights to order closure while insisting the Nigeria Police Force is working with centre operators and local agencies to improve security particularly in restive North.
“We’re not calling for a total proscription. We would rather as first choice sensitize and educate the public so they can take informed decisions,” the police spokesman added.
