Policeman killed, as gunmen attack ex IPG, Coomassie’s house

Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers on Saturday evening attacked the residence of former inspector general of police and Chairman Arewa Consultative Forum, ( ACF), Alhaji Ibrahim Coomassie located at GRA Ring road Katsina.
Confirming the incident, the Katsina Police Command spokesperson, DSP Gambo Isah, said the two armed hoodlums riding on a bike attacked mobile policemen posted on guard duty at the residence of the former IGP, Ibrahim Coomassie.
He revealed that the gunmen met stiff resistance from the policemen on duty who he said prevented them from gaining access to the residence of the former IGP.
He added that it was during the gun duel, that a police sergeant, Musa Ibrahim was killed while one Corporal Shitu Maikudi was wounded on the leg by a stray bullet and was quickly rushed to the Katsina General Hospital for treatment.
According to the spokesman, immediately information reached the command, the commissioner of police, BD Gwana rushed to the scene and discovered that the hoodlums had escaped under the cover of the night.
Isah disclosed that 18 empty shells of expended ammunition were recovered from the scene of the incident, promising that the command nis working assiduously to arrest the criminals and assured citizens of the state to go about their normal business without any fear as the command was on top of the situation.
On the whereabouts of the former IGP, a source close to his house told Our Correspondent on condition of anonymity that the ex- IGP was in the house during the attack but escape unhurt while the gunmen were said to have carted away two guns from the policemen.
