Government will not hesitate to apply punitive measures against any traditional institution, village head and district head, that refuses to monitor and supervise effective administration of polio vaccines in his domain, according to the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abdullahi Adamu Candido.
Candido handed down the warning while speaking at the flag-off ceremony of the January 2018 sub-national immunisation plus days, in Jiwa-Abuja at the weekend.
He specifically warned that the council would not hesitate to swiftly apply stiff punitive measures against any traditional ruler found wanting in any degree.
The AMAC chairman charged the village and district heads to heed to the call for strict and proper supervision cum monitoring of polio immunisation programme.
According to him, community leaders should ensure that the people in their areas, promptly submit their children for the exercise.
He equally called on residents of the council to imbibe the culture of personal hygiene and desist from open defecation and indiscriminate waste disposal in their environment, to avoid polio.
“Because of the future of our children, government will not hesitate to apply punitive steps and measures to any traditional institution, village head and district head, that refuses to monitor and supervise effective administration of polio vaccines in his domain,” the Chairman AMAC stressed.
Also speaking, the Sarkin Jiwa, HRH Alhaji Idris Musa, called on the people to put all hands on deck, by keeping their environment clean, so as to eradicate polio in the FCT and country at large.
