Power: North East Govs Forum turn to Coal/Solar

The Northeast Governors Forum has urged the federal government to include the region in to the national railway transportation plan using the modern gauge rail.
Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state made the position of the forum known in Yola weekend while reading the communique of the meeting, stressing that poor rail system or repairs on the old gauge rail lines is not useful and sustainable technology.
Governor Buni announced also that the forum has resolved to engage the services of Shanghai Electric company to construct a 60 MW coal power plant or 50MW solar power plant in each state of the region to mitigate poor energy situation militating the region.
“Forum has noted the poor energy situation in the region to mitigate the situation. Forum resolved to work with Shanghai Electric company to construct 60WM coal power plant or 50WM solar power plant in each state of the region”.Buni stated.
He maintained that the forum notes that poor infrastructure and bad road network as encumbrances stalling development and fueling insecurity in the region, and making life more difficult to the people.
“The forum calls on the North East Development Commission to work with the state governments and the federal ministry of Works to improve road networks, and to adopt more practical measures in rebuilding the roads.
“Although the security situation is improving positively,
State governments should collaborate in the design of the security architecture, and to work with the security agencies to have a common road map”.
