PPA rates PDP performance low, says defectors lack morals

The Progressive People’s Alliance (PPA) has said that the performance of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the past 15 years and presently under the leadership of President Goodluck Jonathan has failed to meet the aspiration of Nigerians.

The National Chairman of the party, Comrade Peter Ameh, gave this assertion yesterday in an interview he granted newsmen shortly after meeting with party members in Kaduna state.

The PPA Chairman, who said he was in Kaduna to brief his party members on the activities of the party and necessary steps put in place t to guarantee the party’s victory come 2015, also described those cross carpeting from one political party to another as lacking in integrity.

Ameh averred that with the huge resources accruing to the country, Nigeria should have been better off than it is now but for corruption that has eaten deep into the system unabated.

Although he said the PPA will field candidates in all the available contestable positions in the 2015 general elections, the PPA boss however said Nigerians have the right through their votes to decide who leads them to the promised land in the years ahead.

“I must not fail to add that PDP’s administration has not performed up to the expectations of the general masses; it is now left for them to decide through their voting power who will govern them in subsequent elections” he said.

On the political defectors, he said, “the situation of people defecting from one political party to the other is rather a painful development; it is against the social contract with electorates.

“Once elected under a political party and you decide to abandon the party which gave you that mandate, it simply shows that such politician lacks morals and ideology.

“Party leaders need to follow laid down rules in their constitution; apply necessary internal democracy, equity and fairness in running the party, perhaps that will checkmate the cross carpeting here and there” he stressed.

Ameh commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), with its resolve to doing everything within its powers and ambit of the law to check rigging in the 2015 elections, saying with such stand, the PPA will certainly come out stronger in future elections.
