Presidential tribunal: PDP goes spiritual, holds prayer session

Ahead of today’s scheduled judgement by the Presidential Elections Petition Tribunal in the case filed by PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abibakar, challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari, the party (PDP) has turned to God in prayers, seeking His intervention in the petition before the election petition panel.
The tribunal’s judgement has already been slated for today (Wednesday, September 11) at 9.30am.
The PDP National Chapel, which is located inside the party’s National Secretariat, the organizers of the prayer programme, declared a 12-day fasting and prayer session, beginning from August 29 through September 13.
This was with the expectation that the judgement would be delivered on that day.
The PDP said that it is “in God’s presence entreating His Divine mercy and justice to prevail on behalf of PDP and Nigerians at the presidential tribunal.”
Pastor Josephine Ejeh, Secretary of the Chapel, who issued the notice, enjoined all members of the PDP to join “the 12 days ongoing prayer project regarding the presidential tribunal (Appeal) judgement…
“Consequently, we are all admonished to come out in agreement to fight this causr through prayer”, it said.
Also yesterday, a group, the Democratic Defenders of Nigeria (DEDON), declared that it is pertinent that justice should prevail in the petition filed by PDP and its presidential candidate.
The Convener of the DEDON, Hon Victor Morrow, at a press conference in Abuja, urged the Justice Garba panel to do justice to the petition before it.
According to him, “This campaign is driven by struggles of the oppressed and hungry Nigerians who sincerely want to see the will of the people prevail by allowing the winner of the 2019 Presidential Election with the majority of the Nigerian votes gets JUSTICE NOW.
“We must allow democracy, which represents the government of the people, by the people and for the people, to flourish so that the labour of our heroes past and those alive will not be in vain, and importantly for national unity and economic prosperity,” Victor Morrow said.
He threatened to lead a peaceful protest to the international communities in solidarity for Justice, which he said, was part of democratic efforts to foster peace and justice.
