The Nigeria’s Public Procurement Act has positively affected the construction industry, by helping in reduction of incidences of abandoned public and private projects across the country.
Chief Executive of Kabola Associates, a private consulting firm, Alhaji Kabiru Olayiwola, made the assertion in Abuja on Friday, adding that the story was not the same now as it was before the coming of the Act in 2006 by Late President Umaru Yar’adua’s administration. He said the sustenance of the Public Procurement Act has changed the face of construction industry in the country.
The expert said while the credit goes to former President Yar’Adua, for signing the law into Act, President Goodluck Jonathan deserved commendation for implementing the Act in the overriding public interest, thereby saving the nation’s huge losses due to uncompleted project that may degenerate. According to him, the stand of the present administration to complete all abandoned projects has also helped Construction Company in Nigeria to uphold quality delivery as well as generating employment. He however called on the government to ensure that round pegs are placed in round holes for effective facility management of public infrastructure.
