Protests rocked the headquarters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday with scores of demonstrators from Cross Rivers State Chapter claiming that their slot has been stolen.
The protesters clashed with fierce-looking security agents as they confronted the National headquarters, demanding that the slot of National Women Leader, which was previously occupied by Dr. Betta Edu but now allocated to Edo State be returned.
Although they were stopped from having access to the APC national secretariat, the protest came a few hours to the inauguration of the newly elected members of the National Working Committee, NWC.
While the protesters engaged in a shouting match with placards held high above their heads, they lamented that, “the outgoing National Deputy Chairman for North, Senator Abubakar Kyari was replaced by Borno party chairman, Ali Dalori while the founder of Sister-To-Sister Empowerment Worldwide, Dr. Mary Idele from Edo State was elected to occupy the office of the National Women Leader previously held by Dr. Betta Edu.”
“This is injustice”, the protesters were heard lamenting.
Meanwhile, the National Working Committee released a new set of elected zonal officers of the NWC on Wednesday in Abuja.
