The Progressive Students Movement, PSM, Nigeria chapter, has backed the recent reshuffling of the Ogun State Police Command, describing it as a move to strengthen proactive policing and improve security in the state.
The group, through its National Director, Welfare and Political Engagements, Comrade Awesu Fawaz, said in a statement on Tuesday that it welcomed the appointment of SP Obeh Eneye as the new Officer-in-Charge of the Special Weapons and Tactics, SWAT, unit following the retirement of his predecessor, CSP Murphy Salami.
PSM commended the leadership of the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, for what it described as successes recorded by the command.
The group specifically cited the rescue of kidnap victims and the arrest of suspected armed robbers and other criminal syndicates.
It said the efforts were in line with the zero-tolerance-for-criminality agenda of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, and global policing practices.
PSM also acknowledged the contribution of the former SWAT commander, CSP Salami, following his retirement.
The group congratulated Salami and wished him success in his future endeavours.
On the new SWAT commander, PSM described Eneye as a youthful and proactive police officer with the capacity to strengthen security operations in Ogun.
“We hail the choice of SP Obeh Eneye as the new OC SWAT for the state command following the meritorious retirement of the former OC SWAT, CSP Murphy Salami, who gave his very best to service to nation-building,” Fawaz said.
He said the group had confidence in Eneye’s ability to contribute to efforts aimed at protecting lives and property in the state.
“We have strong confidence in him as a true crime buster with the capacity to further drive positive change in the Gateway State, all aimed at securing lives and properties,” he said.
PSM urged the new SWAT commander to justify the confidence placed in him by intensifying efforts against criminality across Ogun State.
