Radda Orders Immediate Rehabilitation of Kore, Majen Wayya Earth Dams

The Executive Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has directed the State Ministry of Water Resources to urgently conduct a comprehensive technical assessment of two collapsed earth dams located at Kore village in Batagarawa and Majen Wayya in Charanchi local government areas.

Radda gave the directives on Tuesday at Government House, Katsina, while receiving a high-powered delegation of stakeholders, including members of the ADC and PDP, who formally defected to the APC.

The governor explained that the assessment is the first critical step toward the rehabilitation of the dams, which are essential in supporting irrigation, livelihoods, and agricultural productivity in the communities.

He told the ministry to urgently restore the facilities as thousands of farmers rely on them for water supply and agricultural activities.

“We must act quickly to restore these dams because our farmers depend on them for their livelihoods,” the governor said.

Radda reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to agricultural development, saying that water infrastructure remains central to the state’s development agenda.

“Agriculture remains central to our development agenda, and water infrastructure is key to achieving that goal,” he added.

He therefore said the collapsed dams must be rehabilitated without delay in order to safeguard food production and strengthen food security.

“We will not ignore any issue that affects the welfare and productivity of our people,” he said.

He assured the delegation of prompt approval as soon as he receives the technical report.

On the political realignment, the governor welcomed the new entrants into the APC and assured them of equal treatment and full inclusion.

He directed the State Chairman of the party, Dr. Bashir Gambo Saulawa, to ensure their smooth integration into all party structures.

“Everyone coming into our party will be given equal opportunity to contribute and participate,” he stated.

Earlier, the APC State Chairman, Dr. Bashir Gambo Saulawa, dismissed critics of the administration, saying that government achievements are visible across key sectors, particularly healthcare, education, empowerment initiatives, and security.

The leader of the delegation, Alhaji Hamza Dalhatu, said they defected from the ADC and PDP to the APC in order to support Governor Radda ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

Alhaji Hamza Dalhatu appealed for the rehabilitation of the two earth dams, which he said were originally constructed during his tenure as a member of the House of Representatives.
