Radda seeks traditional rulers’ support on security

Date:

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has called for stronger collaboration with traditional rulers to tackle insecurity and accelerate grassroots development.

He said sustainable security and development could not be achieved without the active involvement of traditional institutions, community elders and other local stakeholders.

Radda spoke during an engagement with the District Head of Bakori, Alhaji Garba Tukur Idris, Makaman Katsina, and other traditional leaders in Bakori Local Government Area.

The engagement formed part of activities by the Tinubu–Dikko 2027 Campaign Council to mobilise support at the grassroots.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, the governor described traditional rulers as indispensable partners in maintaining peace, promoting social harmony and strengthening community participation in governance.

“Government cannot achieve sustainable security and grassroots development without the active cooperation of traditional rulers, community elders and other local stakeholders,” he said.

Radda urged traditional leaders to work closely with security agencies and political stakeholders to address security challenges confronting communities across the state.

“Your role in maintaining peace and order in our communities is very important. We need your cooperation to address security challenges and advance development at the grassroots,” he added.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, strengthening security operations and ensuring that farmers could access their farmlands while traders conducted their businesses without fear.

He also called for closer collaboration among traditional rulers, security agencies, political leaders, youths and women, saying collective responsibility was necessary to tackle insecurity and expand economic opportunities.

On the political dimension of the visit, Radda urged community leaders to embrace unity and support the Tinubu–Dikko 2027 agenda, describing it as an opportunity to sustain continuity and development.

He said the engagement was also intended to strengthen the relationship between government and traditional institutions.

The governor thanked the district head, traditional titleholders and residents of Bakori for their reception, prayers and support.

Earlier, the District Head of Bakori, Idris, welcomed the governor and his delegation, expressing appreciation for the engagement and the government’s relationship with traditional institutions.

He identified agriculture, trading and commerce as the mainstays of Bakori’s economy, noting that the area also had skilled and unskilled labour capable of supporting economic activities.

The traditional ruler highlighted the importance of dams and boreholes in supporting irrigation and domestic water supply, saying the resources could further improve agricultural productivity and attract investment.

He also commended the collaboration among traditional institutions, local government authorities, security agencies and residents in maintaining peace.

Idris called for sustained cooperation to protect communities and urged residents to support policies and programmes aimed at improving their welfare.
