The Yobe Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) confirmed that, 3 peoples lost their lives while 7 others were injured, and many houses destroyed by rainstorm in Nangere/ Pakarau wards of Nangere Local Government Area in Yobe State.
Another source from the community indicated that 20 people were seriously injured, while about 50 houses and shops were destroyed by the heavy rain on Saturday.
The SEMA team has visited the area and commiserated with the victims of the flood that destroyed many houses.
The team has carried out validation exercise flood/building collapse victims across Nangere, Pakarau, Garin Gabako, Makera, Garin Dashu, Magume and Garin Keri communities for response planning.
Earlier the Executive Secretary YOSEMA Dr Mohammed Goje has directed the LGA team to settle the medical bills of all the injured victims at Nangere General hospital, that’s was done and the injured victims were all discharged. While on-the spot assessment was conducted.
The ES commiserated with the family of the deceased, and he said although this are trying moments in our economy and source of income, he also urges the community members to revive maintenance culture of mud houses (Yabe) to mitigate the risk of building collapse during raining season.
