REA: FG confirms Zwingina resignation, picks Hiliya as acting Chairman

The federal government has confirmed the resignation of the former Chairman, Board of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Sen. Jonathan Zwingina to allow him pursue his political ambition.

Consequently, the Ministerof State for Power, Hon Mohammed Wakil Chinedu has directed the Vice Chairman, Board of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Hon. Umar Maude Hiliya to head the

board in acting capacity after approving the resignation of the Chairman.

The statement from the agency cited separate circulars issued and signed by the Deputy Director, Human Resources in the Ministry, Mrs. Blessing O. Egwu. It stated that the Chairman resigned to pursue his political ambition of contesting for the senate seat under PDP in his Senatorial District, in Adamawa State.

“The HMSP, Hon. Mohammed Wakil, OON, FINM has accepted the resignation of the former Board Chairman of REA, Prof. (Sen.) Jonathan S. Zwingina and approved for changes and promotions in the REA Management,” it read in part.

The acting Chairman, Hiliya until the directive was the Vice Chairman of REA Board; he will be in acting capacity ‘pending the appointment of a substantive Chairman by Mr. President.’

Equally, the former Director (Projects) in the agency, Engr. Sam Chundusu has been redeployed to the Directorate of Planning Research and Development (PR&D) as Director, while Engr Mohammed Wasaram at the Directorate of Promotion (Information & Outreach) is now the Director, Projects.

Also, the former Head of PR&D is now takes over from Engr. Wasaram while the Acting Director (Funds Management) Mrs. Abike Solanke and the Assistant Director (Legal) Barr. Francis B. Agwu were elevated to Director position at the departments.

“All the Handing over/Taking over has been complied with as at 12 noon on Friday, 24th October, 2014 as directed by the MD/CE,” the statement noted.
