Reactions trail demise of Senator Zwingina in Adamawa

Reactions have continued trailing the demise of former Senate leader, Senator Silas Zwingina, whose death occured on the 2nd of October, 2024.
Late Zwingina served as Senator for Adamawa Southern Zone from 1999 to 2007 under former president Olusegun Obasanjo era where he contributed immensely in the political landscape of his state and the nation at large.
In his condolence message, Former Governorship Candidate of the SDP in the 2023 election in Adamawa state, Dr. Umar Ardo, expressed his sadness over the demise of the deceased describing his death as a big loss to the state and nation.
Ardo said late Zwingina, was a remarkable statesman, scholar, and patriot whose life and legacy have left an indelible mark on Nigeria and beyond.
According to him: “Senator Zwingina’s outstanding contributions as an academic and political activist will be remembered for generations.
“His passion for the betterment of Nigeria was evident in his role as the Director General of Chief MKO Abiola’s historic presidential campaign, which led to the June 12, 1993 victory – a defining moment in our nation’s democratic struggle.
“As a legislator, his wisdom and integrity shaped many of the policies that continue to guide Nigeria today, and his loss is deeply felt, not only by his immediate family and the people of Guyuk and Adamawa, but also by the entire nation and the global academic community.
“His intellectual contributions and dedication to public service have left a legacy that will continue to inspire us all.”
On his part, Senator Aminu Iya Abbas, representing Adamawa central in the Senate while condoling his family and associates said his death is great loss to Nungurala people praying for his departed soul to rest in peace.
Also, former Vice president of the American University of Nigeria,Yola.Professor Abubakar Abba Tahir, who condoled the people of the state over the loss, noted that Late Zwingina sojourn as an erudite, scholar, rhetorician, selfless -service public servant and pure minded politician.
Tahir suggested to the government to immortalize the name of Senator Zwingina on the buildings of State Polytechnic Yola (SPY) and National Orientation Agency ( NOA) as a way to appreciate his contributions to public service.
However, when contacted, the president of the Lunguda Development Association,Chief Ibrahim Welye said the death came to him as a shock praying for his soul to rest in peace and for God to give the family and colleagues and associates the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
According to his family through Mr. Kabrah Zwingina, who disclosed that the deceased died on Wednesday, urged associates and sympathisers to uphold the family in their thoughts and prayers at this trying moment of their lives.
He added that burial arrangements would be communicated in due cause.
