The Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Bello Usman-Kumo, has accepted the decision of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), in Gombe State to adopt Jamilu Isiyaku Gwamna as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
Kumo, who had also shown interest in contesting for the governorship ticket of the party, said he decided to align with the party’s position in the interest of unity and stability within the APC.
The lawmaker stated that the adoption of a consensus arrangement was consistent with provisions of the Electoral Act, noting that he played a role in drafting the legislation that permits political parties to select candidates through consensus.
“My interest and desire to contest for the governorship position in Gombe State were not hidden,” Kumo said.
“However, with the consensus option validly adopted and affirmed in accordance with the party’s position, I am left with no better option than to toe the party line.”
He commended Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, for their leadership roles in the party.
Kumo also urged his supporters across Gombe State to remain committed to the APC and mobilise support for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
