The House of Representatives has called on government to come to the aid of over 5000 families of AbuIe-Ado near Lagos International Trade Fair Complex in Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency, Lagos, where Gas Plant explosion killed over 30 people, injured over 200 people and destroyed over 500 buildings worth billions of Naira.
The House also resolved to partner with the Government of Lagos State to find the root cause of the explosion with a view to averting the reoccurrence in the future.
It further resolved to assist with the relief fund set up by the State Government by providing financial relief for the victims of the National disaster.
The green Chamber mandated the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to give material assistance to the over five thousand people who suffered various degrees of injuries, those whose relatives died and those whose houses and properties were destroyed in the gas plant explosion.
These decisions were sequel to the unanimous adoption of a motion jointly sponsored by Members of the House of Representatives from Lagos on Wednesday during plenary.
Presenting the motion on behalf of other Lagos lawmakers, Dolapo -Badru Enitan (APC, Lagos) the House noted that on Sunday, March 5th 2020, Ado Soba of Amuwo Odofin, Lagos was rocked by Gas Explosion resulting in a catastrophe, the magnitude of which is a national disaster.
He said the House further noted that the unprecedented destruction orchestrated by the gas plant explosion killed over 30(thirty) people including the Principal of Bethlehem College Rev.Sr. Henritta Alokha, Mr Obi lyio and his wife and two children Tochukwu and Kachi.
