The House of Representatives on Tuesday strongly condemned the gruesome killing of seven Nigerian citizens from Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State in Awka, Anambra State.
The House equally called on the Federal Government to take concrete measures to prevent such senseless killings and protect the lives and properties of all citizens.
The House further urged the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the Department of State Service to take urgent and decisive action to address the situation and ensure that the culprits are brought to face the full weight of the law.
The House resolutions followed the adoption of the Motion of Urgent Public Important moved by Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi who expressed utter dismay and deep concern over the brutal murder of innocent citizens by an armed militia while repairing their motorcycles at a mechanic garage.
The victims, residents of Awka, were peacefully working as motorcycle riders at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Gate. They were neither terrorists, bandits, nor criminals, but peace-loving citizens of Nigeria.
The House noted that the victims, including Joseph Ishaku (31), Jamila Haruna (20), Abdultawab Aliyu (28), Abdul razaq Muhammed (18), Nurudeen Yusuf (23), and Awal, were shot to death, while Ayuba Habu (23), Abdulkareem Haruna (25), and Anas Abdulwahab (30) were severely injured.
The House resolved to observe a minute silence in honor of the departed, condemn the brutal killing, and urge the Federal Government to immediately commence a thorough investigation into the heinous crime.
The brutal act has sparked widespread concern, threatening the existence, freedom of movement, and right to life and liberty of Nigerians, as guaranteed by the Constitution.
The House’s resolution emphasizes the need for prompt security measures to safeguard lives and prevent anarchy and total insecurity across the Federation.
