The House of Representatives on Tuesday condemned the recent wave of killings and attacks by armed herders in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, calling for urgent federal intervention to restore peace and provide relief to affected communities.

The House equally Urged immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators, Requesting the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and NEMA to provide urgent relief materials to displaced residents.

The House Resolved to send a high-powered delegation to condole with the people of Otukpo, Observed a one-minute silence in honour of the victims.

Rising on a motion of urgent public importance, a member of the House and the mover of motion, Blessing Onuh highlighted the deteriorating security situation in the ancient commercial town, once known for its peace and hospitality.

Communities such as Asa 2, Akpa Otobi, Adoka, Okpomaju, and Amichi have been hardest hit, with dozens killed — including a retired senior customs officer — and thousands displaced.
