Reps member urges FG to increase funding to health sector

A member representing Lafia- obi federal constituency at the House of Representatives Honourable Abubakar Sarkin Dahiru has called on the federal government to increase budgetary allocation to the health sector in order to trap down cases of HIV/Aids, Tuberculosis, Malaria and other related dreaded diseases in the country.
Abubakar Sarkin Dahiru who is the House committee chairman on Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria control at the House of representatives made the plea during the inauguration of meningitis and measles campaign held in Shabu town of Lafia local government council of Nasarawa State.
Presenting the federal lawmaker speech at the event, the member representing Lafia Central at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Honourable Abdullahi Agibi stated that the health sector should be accorded topmost priority by government at all levels in order to rid out dreaded diseases.
According to him, “Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria are dreaded diseases that posed serious danger in our society. I urged government, NGOs and wealthy individuals to lay more emphasis through funding so as to tackle the menace”.
“When there is an increase budgetary allocation to the health sector. Our primary health care centers PHC can work effectively in areas of service delivery to humanity. Our traditional institutions should be encouraged in the area of sensitizing their subjects especially on immunization exercises” Abubakar maintained.
The lawmaker further appealed to lawmakers in the country to take into cognizance the health sector as their cardinal responsibility by supporting health bill during floor proceedings as according to him” A healthy society is a wealthy one. Let us accord premium to the fight against Tuberculosis, Aids, Malaria and other related diseases in our respective constituencies across the country.
He, however, commended the step embarked upon by the federal government in the sphere of health care delivery system as well as maintained that a lot need to be done through adequate budgetary allocation to the health sector in order to combat some of the challenges.
