In a surprise move, the House of Representatives has withdrawn the Counter Subversion Bill and related draft legislation, citing the voices and concerns of the people.
Abbas Tajudeen, made the announcement on August 14th following extensive consultations with stakeholders and careful consideration of the nation’s current circumstances.
The Speaker in statement by Musa Abdullahi Krishi, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity said “the decision marks a significant victory for citizens who raised concerns about the Bill, which was introduced on July 23, 2024.
Speaker Tajudeen, known for prioritizing the people’s interests, reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the House remains truly the People’s House.
By withdrawing the Bill, the Speaker demonstrated his dedication to listening to citizens and fostering unity, acknowledging the significance of the concerns raised and the attention the Bill garnered.
The move aims to maintain peace and unity in the nation, upholding the Speaker’s promise to never support any action that might disrupt harmony.
The public has been notified of the withdrawal, and the move is seen as a testament to the power of citizen engagement and the importance of representation in the House of Representatives.
