The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has commended the Nigerian security forces for the safe rescue from the camp of terrorists, of the abducted Oyo school children and their teachers after over fifty six (56) days in captivity.
National Publicity Secretary (NPS) of the party, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba in a statement on Sunday said the SDP shares in the national pride, the unity of purpose, impeccable professionalism, and gallantry deplored by the armed forces in the one month-long intelligence-led multi-agency joint operation.
Aiyenigba added that despite the traumatic and greatly discomfiting experience of the abduction which occured on May 15, 2026, there is every reason to rejoice over the freeing of the captives, adding that the positive development of the rescue is remarkable, considering the massive political will demonstrated by the government at all levels.
“The success story of this rescue operation, reinforces the consistent position of the SDP, that everything wrong with us as a nation can be corrected with the right politics, right attitude, and correct capacity deployment of our leaders and the administrators of our national affairs, in an atmosphere of absolute commitment to the true interest of the nation and the promotion of the public good”.
However, the party regretted the death of an Army officer, Lt. Felix Ademe Isaac, who unfortunately lost his life during the rescue operation.
“While celebrating the safe rescue and re-union of the 44 school children and teachers with their families, the SDP mourns the loss of the 28-year old gallant Army officer, Lieutenant Felix Ademe Isaac, who fell in the line of duty in that operation.
“The Party salutes the courage and sacrifice of the fallen officer in restoring joy to the traumatized families and for giving up his life to make the Nigerian society better. His death and other heroes like him will forever be remembered”.
The SDP charged the government to commit more effort to address the prevalent poverty, hunger and social injustice which it said currently define the national life, and also the root causes of the present social disorder and worsening insecurity across the country.
