Residents charged to report environmental nuisances

FCT residents have been enjoined to form the habit of reporting environmental nuisances to the relevant government authorities for prompt response and remedies, so as mitigate health risks and wastages.
They were reminded that the onus lies on everyone to support government, by maintaining public infrastructures, and reporting nuisances whenever they occur.
According to the Director, Department of Monitoring And Inspection of the FCT Administration, Olawale Labiyi, who gave the advice, noted that governance is not for those in authority alone.
Labiyi, who was spoke through Obina Nkwocha, Head of City Monitoring Division, singled out FCT Water Board and Abuja Environmental Protection Board for commendation for their prompt response in tackling issues brought to their notice in recent times.
A statement from Assistant Director/ Head, Public Relations Unit of the Department, Josie Mudasiru, revealed that the Director specifically recalled that all leakages reported to Water Board, especially in Asokoro area were promptly attended to, and that this action alone has saved government a lot of Money as they have prevented wastage of treated water.
He added that AEPB attending to breeding manhole on time will reduce breeding of diseases in the City; and restore the beauty of the Abuja Masterplan.
He further opined that other Departments are also doing well, but should double up efforts in ensuring that time allocated to handling complaints is reduced to the barest minimum.
“ The FCT Administration is committed to excellent Service delivery, hence the establishment of the Department of Monitoring.
“The onus now lies on everyone to support government by maintaining public infrastructures, and reporting nuisances whenever they occur”, he explained.
