Residents of Kaduna community storm Police station to demand action against kidnapping

Residents of Danhonu II, a community in New Millennium City, Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State, held a protest on Monday at the Millennium City Divisional Police Headquarters over ongoing kidnapping cases in their area. They blocked the main road leading to the police station, chanting and calling for urgent security measures to stop the rising number of abductions.
They reported that bandits kidnapped seven people around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday from two families in the latest incident.
The victims include Malam Yahaya Yusuf, his wife, Latifat Yusuf, and their sons, Abdulgafar and Abdulqudus.
Also kidnapped were; Mrs. Abdulrazak Jimoh and two of her children.
Residents said this brings the total kidnapping cases in the community to 11 in just a few months.
Residents believe most attacks have targeted non-indigenes, leading to suspicion of possible inside collaborators.
They urged security agencies to thoroughly investigate these repeated attacks and identify any informants aiding the criminals.
Mr. Akoh Salifu, Chairman of the Danhonu II Landlords Association and the protest leader, said the community is no longer able to live peacefully. “We are here because we can no longer live in peace. The continuous kidnapping incidents have become overwhelming,” he stated.
Salifu also mentioned that some youths tried to follow the kidnappers into the forest after Sunday’s attack but failed to catch them. “As law-abiding citizens, we decided to report our grievances to the police and urgently seek help to protect our community,” he added.
In response, DSP Mansir Hassan, spokesman for Kaduna State Police Command, said they received a distress call late Sunday and quickly sent officers to the scene.
He explained that the police team, supported by soldiers, responded, but arrived late due to bad roads and tough terrain, allowing the kidnappers to escape with the victims despite exchanging gunfire.
