Abuja Residents in Gwagwalada Area Council, of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have expressed worry over the deplorable condition of roads in the area. , which constantly expose people to a lot of untold hardships.
Some of the residents who spoke to the Peoples Daily, lamented the poor state of roads, which they blamed on negligence and lack of political will by successive administrations of the Council, to execute people-orientated projects effectively.
A resident in the area, Mr. Yahaya Sani, accused past administrations of the Council of failing to rehabilitate the Gwagwalada town hall road.
He appealed to the present leadership of the Council to deem it fit to repair the road, in order to lessen the sufferings experienced daily by the people.
“The Gwagwalada town hall road has really affected us negatively, and whenever we try to use it the result has always been difficult”, Sani expressed.
Similarly, another resident, Mr. Samuel Kelvin, also called on the government to rehabilitate the Pilot science primary school road, in the interest of the children, who are forced to trek long distances to attend the school, due to the terrible condition of the road.
Kelvin, who is a trader in the area, equally appealed to the administration of the Council, to as a matter of urgency to repair the Lasisi-Paikon Motel road, that leads to the Gwagwalada central market, so as to reduce the hardship of the masses.
On his part, a community leader of Anguwan Hajara in Gwagwalada, Malam Awwal Saleh, lamented the agony and sadness the people usually pass through due to lack of good roads in the area.
Not left out, a civil servant, Mr. Dansabe Gaya, alleged that despite the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) fund released to the lawmaker representing Gwagwalada at the National House of Assembly, Isah Egah Dobi, to tar the Anguwan Hajara road, but diverted the money for his personal use.
He however, queried the past chairmen of the area council for not focused on the rehabilitation of roads in the area.
