Two Nigeria representatives in the 2022-2023 CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, Rivers United and Kwara United recorded massive victories in their opening campaigns at home on Sunday.

Playing at the Adokiye Amiesimaka International Stadium, Port Harcourt, Rivers United thrashed visiting Watanga FC of Liberia 3-0 in their first leg preliminary round of the Champions League.

The home side wasted no time in asserting their superiority over their guests as Kenechukwu Agụ scored the opener in the 8th minute. 

Ten minutes later, the Pride of Rivers made it two-nil after Ebube Duru shot from 20 yards to make it goal number two assisted by Paul Acquah

Paul Acquah scored the 3rd and final goal in the added time of the first half. The duration of the second half recorded no goal as both teams wasted opportunities either to increase the rally or reduce the deficit.

At the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, Kwara United had no mercy on their visitors, AS Douanes of Niger as they handed them a 3-0 win to establish a huge advantage against them in the return leg. 

Wasiu Jimoh netted a brace in the 17th and 40th minute after Paul Samson had score an early 5th minute goal to hand the Harmony Boys  a convencing victory.

While the home teams recorded massive results, Plateau United had a near perfect away match on Saturday after Stade Mandji came from behind to drew 2-2 against the former NPFL champions in the CAF Champions League.

In the Confederation Cup, another representative, Remo Stars are playing goalless against their host, AS FAR of Morocco as at the time of this report 

The return leg of the matches will hold within the weekend of 16 – 18 September, 2022.
