Rtd CBN Director vies for Senate in Zamfara

The retired Director Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and a current National President of the Association of Small and Medium Enterprise (SME), Garba Ibrahim Gusau, yesterday declared his intention to join the race for the seat of Senate representing Zamfara central on the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking with journalists in Gusau, the state capital, Garba Gusau said, he was put under pressure by the concerned people in the state to contest the post of Senate as the crawling democracy is virtually in need of economic experts like him for the rapid development of the state.

Gusau, who noted that Zamfara is highly blessed with fertile soil and solid minerals even in commercial quantity, has stressed the need to utilise all available resources to explore what would build the economy of the state.

He said the current position of the state economy has compelled a threatening number of youth into thuggery, the situation which he suggested that they should be mobilised by either elder statesmen into legitimate businesses.

“I will ensure the engagement of the teeming youth out of my experience into the Skill Acquisition Programme so that the high rate of poverty would be reduced to the barest level”.

He challenged that Zamfara state has been left far behind in terms progress considering the level of development made so far by other states created same time. Adding that time has come during which dirty politics should be thrown back to face the formidable challenges bedevilled the state.
