Nigeria suffered another setback at the 2026 CAVB Men’s African Nations Volleyball Championship in Tunis, losing 3-1 to Rwanda in the classification match for places 5-8.
Rwanda secured the victory with a 25-23, 25-20, 18-25, 25-19 scoreline in Match 28 of the championship on Day 9.
The Rwandans edged a closely contested opening set 25-23 before taking control of the second, winning 25-20 to establish a 2-0 lead.
Nigeria responded strongly in the third set, producing its best spell of the match to win 25-18 and reduce the deficit to 2-1.
However, Rwanda regained its composure in the fourth set and closed out the contest 25-19 to secure a 3-1 victory.
The result leaves Nigeria competing for seventh and eighth positions as the championship enters its closing stages in Tunis.
Nigeria had earlier reached the classification stage after its quarter-final defeat to Morocco, with the team seeking to finish its campaign on a positive note.
The 2026 championship features Africa’s leading men’s volleyball nations competing for continental honours and final positions on the classification table.
