The students of Government Secondary School Yelwa, in Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State have expressed happiness as the school reopens only for JSS3 and SS3 Students the first time since the Federal Government directives to shutdown schools in March 2020 due to ravaging Covid-19 Pandemic.
The students also hoped that other classes would be allowed to resume usual academic activities soonest.
The students, who were overjoyed wearing their facemasks during an interactive session with our correspondent also praised relevant stakeholders and authorities for the position they have taken to enable academic activities continues especially as the 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) nears.
Waheebat M. Babayaro, one of the students interviewed said “It has gladdens me a lot that our schools are allowed to resume. This is a significant period to us as you can see that our WASSCE timetable is already out and the examination is scheduled to commence on the 17th. We would have risk missing a complete year, she said”.
Speaking further, Mulengdan Manzo and Ishaq Musa Abdullahi, both SS3 students said “Although we have spent longer moment at home, we are well prepared for the exams given that we had the rare privileged to undertake an extramural lectures where we had resounding tutorials during the lockdown”. They commend the school management for providing necessary safety protocols as enunciated by the Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC).
Earlier, the Vice Principal of the School, Mr. Nangbes Nanle reiterated commitment of the school management toward ensuring that all necessary guidelines are carefully followed by the staff, students as well as visitors to the school.
