There was high turn of students on the first day of resumption of schools for the 2024/2025 academic session in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), after the third term long break.
It was observed that a great number of students and teachers were present in schools with significant number of them in their classes receiving lectures.
This observation was made yesterday when FCTA Education Management Team embarked on its routine inspection tour to both public and private schools, to asses resumption compliance level in school.
At one of the schools visited, Government Science Secondary School, (GSSS), Pyakasa, in Maitama District, in Abuja Municipal Area (AMAC), which recorded a high turnout of both students and teachers, academic activities were on top gear.
According to the school Principal, Isa Okuro, out of 1,400 students in GSSS Pyakasa, Maitama, it had 964 since resumption, which he described as impressive.
Okuro said: “It is quite encouraging, so we commend the Government too for the renovation of the school. And the parents have been commending the government.”
On the aspect of teachers’ readiness for the new academic session, the Principal said: “we started our programme Friday with resumption meeting and we commenced classes this morning (Monday) in earnest. And the students are doing very well.”
Also speaking, Abu-Francis Ebo Helen, an SS 3 student of GSSS Pyakasa school, said: “the resumption this term has actually been very nice especially with the school renovation, as it is making the school look more exciting and enticing to learn and have a better session.
“I can guarantee that this academic session is actually going to be very exciting year to learn, because of how all the facilities are just so nice to be in.
“Teachers have started coming to class today, on the first day we resumed based on our timetable.
“For other students, my advice is that you should actually focus on your studies, come to classes, read, have your own personal timetable and ensure that you make the most of this year especially for those in their final classes, so that you can actually have a beautiful WAEC and NECO results.”
Similarly, another student of GSSS Pyakasa school in SS 2, Oma-Benedi Excel, said upon resumption, they find out that the environment has proven to be very serene and conductive for learning.
He however, called for improved security, in order not to compromise the serene environment.
Other schools visited by the FCTA inspection team led by the mandate Secretary, FCT Education Secretariat, Dr. Danlami Hayyo include: Government Secondary School, Jabi (GSS Jabi); Junior Secondary School, Jabi (JSS Jabi); LEA, Primary School,Jabi; and Doveland Schools, Jabi, all in AMAC.
The visit is aimed at assessing the readiness of these schools for the new academic term and ensuring compliance with established standards.
