Schools across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have applauded the ongoing education reforms spearheaded by the Minister of the FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike as the Education Resource Centre (ERC) intensifies its monitoring of the ongoing Senior Secondary Certificate (SSC) Mock Examinations.
The commendation came during an inspection tour led by the Director of the ERC, Dr. Neemat Daud Abdulrahim, alongside the Director of the Department of Quality Assurance, Hajia Titilayo Hajara Alayande.
The exercise is part of a broader strategy to ensure strict compliance with examination standards and maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward malpractice.
Strengthening Academic Readiness Speaking during the monitoring exercise, the Director of Royal Family Academy, Ms. Olubunmi Ayeni, described the ERC Mock Examination as a transformative initiative that helps schools gauge student preparedness for external examinations.
“The Mock Examination has been invaluable to us since its inception; that is why we participate every year.
“The questions meet WAEC standards, and the ERC is doing a remarkable job,” Ms. Ayeni stated.
She noted that the school utilizes the mock results to analyze students’ strengths and weaknesses, allowing teachers to intensify targeted instruction.
She also urged other private schools to participate in the ERC initiative to help harmonize and raise examination standards across the FCT.
Standardization and Infrastructure Earlier, the Director of the ERC, Dr. Abdulrahim, explained that the monitoring exercise aligns with the Centre’s mandate to ensure examinations are conducted in conducive environments using vetted, high-standard question papers.
She noted that the steady increase in private school participation reflects the growing credibility of the ERC mock exams. Furthermore, Dr. Abdulrahim highlighted that the Minister’s ongoing renovation of school facilities has significantly boosted student morale by providing comfortable and modern assessment halls.
Hajia Alayande, Director of Quality Assurance, reaffirmed her department’s commitment to safeguarding academic integrity.
She praised the ERC team for sustaining a process that effectively prepares students for WAEC and NECO.
She also commended teachers for their dedication, noting the visible confidence and discipline displayed by the students.
Principals of the visited schools described the ERC Mock Examination as a dependable benchmark.
They reported timely distribution of examination materials; hitch-free conduct across various centers; improved environments due to the FCT Administration’s recent renovations.
Students expressed readiness for their upcoming finals, attributing their confidence to both personal study and the extra lessons organized by their teachers.
They pledged to shun malpractice and strive for academic excellence.
The monitoring team visited several institutions, including, Government Science Technical College, Area 3, Government Secondary School, Garki, Government Science Secondary School, Maitama, and Royal Family Academy, Wuye
The ongoing monitoring exercise reinforces the FCT Administration’s commitment to strengthening academic standards and ensuring that students are equipped to excel in their external examinations.
