A combined team of the Nigerian Military, Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and local vigilantes on Sunday afternoon successfully repelled a bandits’ attack on Tureta town, the headquarters of Tureta Local Government Area (LGA) of Sokoto State.
The successful defence was confirmed by the Chairman of the LGA, Hon. Aliyu Abubakar Tureta, in a telephone interview on Sunday.
According to the Chairman, the joint security operation was led by DSP Jafar Makama, the Commander of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Sokoto State Police Command, alongside operatives from the Tureta Division led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO).
Following the fierce encounter, security forces recovered two motorcycles and seized an undisclosed number of cattle and camels from the fleeing bandits.
The spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmad Rufai, confirmed the incident on Sunday, noting that the operation was still actively tracking the criminals.
“Yes, I have just confirmed from the DPO that the operation is still ongoing to roundly tackle the marauding bandits.
“However, there is no casualty on both sides as of now. There is also no kidnapping effected. I will keep you updated on the ongoing operation”, Rufai stated.
As the situation develops, the joint security forces are reportedly pushing forward, currently engaging another group of bandits in the eastern villages of Tureta LGA, including Dorowa and Matseri.
