…Seeks EU, Oxfam assistance to reduce subsidy on agric production

The Kebbi State Governor Atiku Abubakar Bagudu has appealed to European Union EU and Oxfam to take action on reducing subsidy in agricultural produce in order to make it possible for crops to be produced by the country to compete favourable with outside world.
He made this appeal, weekend when he received the EU and Oxfam delegates in Government House Birnin Kebbi adding that the request from the two organizations is to encourage people of Nigeria and African nations to visit Europe out of choice and not out of necessity.
He affirmed the commitment of his administration to support the programmes and activities of the EU and Oxfam to achieving the desired impact.
The Governor also expressed satisfaction with the intervention programmes of the European Union EU and Oxfam in three local government areas of the state, which are Birnin Kebbi, Jega and Danko/Wasagu Local governments.
Atiku acknowledged that funding by the agencies on poverty eradication and agricultural production has been of immense benefit to the state in the economic empowerment of the people.
Earlier, the leader of the EU delegation Mr. Tomitayo Omole “Yallabai of Jandutsi” a title conferred on him by the communities of Jega Local Government in appreciation of the support given to them.
He commended Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu for his leadership style saying the administration has been doing a great deal to put the state on the path of progress.
He explained that intervention programme would assist to address food security and poverty in three local government areas of Birnin Kebbi, Jega and Danko/Wasagu, expressing satisfaction about the positive impact recorded among beneficiaries.
In his remarks the state commissioner for Agriculture, Barrister Attahiru Maccido enumerated various assistance and support rendered to the thirty communities benefiting from the schemes saying the living condition of the beneficiaries has improved as well as economic activities in the areas.
