Bauchi state Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has donated relief materials to victims of fire disaster in Alkaleri local government area of Bauchi state.

While distributing the items to the beneficiaries, the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Mr. Yohana Usman, said that SEMA was concerned over the wave of fire incidences in the state and had mobilized stakeholders and volunteers The items distributed include roofing nails, bags of cement and 15 bags of rice.

According to him, the massive fire incidents occured in markets, houses and bushes due to indiscriminate storage of inflammable materials and bush burning.

He warned the residents of the area to always be cautious with fire when cooking and using electrical appliances, in order to avoid a re-occurrence of such tragedy.

Yohana said: “There is great intensity of heat this time. The weather is hotter than usual. And you know, we have three elements that constitute fire, which are oxygen, combustion and heat.

“During the wet season, we do not have heat. As such, there are limited cases of inferno. But because we have the three elements at the same time, there is usually friction, which results to fire.

While calling on the residents in the area to take cautious measures that will prevent fire incidences, he recommended proper ventilation at homes and market places as panacea.

He advised the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items, pointing out that it was part of the responsibilities of the government to assist its citizens when the need arises.
