The Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin has donated 1,000 operational motorcycles to Kano state Police.
Jibrin, representing Kano North Senatorial District presented the motorcycles to the state’s Commissioner of Police, Salman Dogo at the Command’s headquarters om Saturday.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Jibrin said 700 of the motorcycles would be allocated to the Kano North Senatorial District, while the remaining 300 would go to the police Command for distribution across various divisions in the state.
According to him, the gesture was to motivate the Police Command for its commitment towards maintaining peace and tranquility in the state.
This is thanking the Kano state Police Command for sacrificing their lives to keep Kano peaceful. It is a fact that Kano is one of the few states with no insurgency and terrorism in the north.
“You allow us to sleep with our two eyes closed unlike other parts of the countries with your efforts and the efforts of your sister security agencies.
“That is why we have presented this support and we are ready to support you more to making sure that we maintain the peace in Kano,” he said.
The Deputy Senate President also expressed willingness to distribute motorcycles to all police officers in the state, nothing that ; “this would ease your work as it would enable you enter all books and crannies to fight criminality in the state.”
He noted that the issue of fighting insecurity requires collective efforts from the members of the society.
“Everybody has a role to play in maintaining peace in Kano. Traditional rulers, ulamas, students, everybody,” he said.
Jibrin also called for prayers to Almighty God for peace to reign in Kano and Nigeria as a whole.
Earlier, the Commissioner of Police called on the police officers to wield the motorcycles with pride, professionalism and a steadfast commitment to upholding the values of integrity, accountability and respect for the rule of law.
