The Senate resumed Tuesday and quickly adjourned plenary in honour of Late Senator Godiya Akwashiki who represented Nasarawa North until his demise on 31st December, 2025.
The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio who formally announced the death described late Senator Godiya Akwashiki as “committed public servant who brought diligence, humility, and a deep sense of responsibility to his legislative duties.
Akwashiki was chairman Senate Committee on Labour in the 9th Senate and chairman Committee on Air Force in the 10th senate.
Akpabio informed the senators that Akwashiki has since been buried.
Therefore, the Senate observed 1 minute silence ask a final mark of respect for the departed colleague.
The Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele Ekiti (Central), in accordance with the Senate tradition moved a motion that all business on the order paper be stepped down till the next legislative day.
Bamidele also informed the Senate that a day will be set later when the family of the late members would be in attendance for the colleagues to pay their last tribute to him.
Senator Oyewunmi Olalere, Deputy Minority Leader seconded the motion and the Senate was adjourned to Wednesday January 28 at 11 am by the Senate President.
