The chairman of Senate Committee on Public Accounts, Senator Matthew Urhoghide has redeemed his pledge to members of his constituency ahead of 2019 general election.
Urhoghide who is the Senator representing Edo South Senatorial district in Edo state gesture was in fufillet of his scholarship grants to 88 public tertiary Institutions and Secondary schools students in his Constituency.
At the 2017 second batch Senator Matthew Urhoghide scholarship award at the Weekend in Benin City, Urhoghide, tasked beneficiaries of his scholarship to strive for excellence in their academic pursuits by justifying the investment.
The scholarship scheme was for indigent students who are in public secondary schools and higher institutions, including university.
According to him, “we are targeting the children of the poor and they are in public schools. I will not pay school fees for children in ivory schools where hundreds of thousands of naira are paid. So any one you find in any of these public institutions who on account of poverty or inability of their parents or guardian to pay fees, I decided to cover that gap”.
The Senator assured that he would continue to award scholarship to the children of the poor as long as he represents the people of Edo South Senatorial District in the Senate.
“As long as I represent the people of Edo South Senatorial District, I will continue to pay the school fees of the poor”, he said.
He assured that the award of scholarship will not prevent him from fulfilling his electioneering promises to his constituents.
