The Senate has passed the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (Amendment) Bill, 2025 officially renaming the Federal College of Agricultural Technology, Opialu Ojapo, Benue State to Federal College of Agriculture and Technology, Opialu Ojapo, Benue State.

The decision was reached during plenary on Wednesday, following the presentation of the bill’s report by the Senate Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions, chaired by Senator Ali Sharafadeen Abiodun (Oyo South).

Originally enacted in February 2025, the legislation required amendments after lawmakers identified technical challenges during its implementation. The renaming is intended to better reflect the institution’s expanded academic and research responsibilities.

Senator Abiodun emphasized that the change aligns with national development goals and conforms to legislative standards. “The amendment conforms to normative drafting standards and will widen the scope of the college, allowing it to fully actualize its core objectives,” he said.
