There was an uproar among some Senators at the plenary on Tuesday following the announcement of the minority leadership of the Upper Chamber as Senator Patrick Abba Moro (PDP Benue ) was named Senate minority leader and senator Osita Nwogu as minority whip.
Senate President, Godswill Akpabio had read the communications from the minority caucus of the Senate amidst protests spare headed by senator Tony Nwoye and other labour party senators.
Senator Tony Nwoye challenged the allocation of three slots of the minority leadership of the Senate to the PDP, leaving the Labour Party with no representation in the senate leadership.
Ngwu replaces Labour Party’s Senator Darlington Nwokwocha, who represented Abia Central district, until his sack by the Court of Appeal in Lagos on November 4.
Senator Abba Moro replaces Senator Simon Nwadkwon representing Plateau North on the platform of the PDP who was sacked by the court.
In his ruling Senate President Godswill Akpabio stated that the list containing the names of Senators Moro and Nwogu were signed by majority of the senators in opposition and that it was incumbent on him to make the announcement .
While briefing journalists, the new Senate minority leader stated that his leadership will provide constructive criticisms and support ideas, policies and legislations that will be in the overall interest of Nigerians.
He expressed satisfactions and commended his colleagues for finding him worthy of the position.
Senate equally approved the report of the committee on Federal Roads Mainatennace Agency, FERMA on the screening of nominations for management and board of the agency by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Those cleared are Dr Chukwuemeka Chijoke (Managing Director ), Terna Manaseh (member(, Kenneth Ugbala(member) Senator Timothy Aduda (member),Babatunde Daramola(memeber) Preye Oseke (member)Aminu Adamu(member) Engr. Abubakar Bappa(member)ACM Shehu Mohammed (member ) and Yusulf Othman(member).The Defence Headquarters has refuted a newspaper report circulating false information about the demise of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa.
