Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomoi, representing Yobe South Senatorial District, has denied speculations of a planned defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC), clarifying the purpose of a recent meeting he held with fellow aspirants in Abuja.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Sen. Bomoi explained that the meeting, attended by APC aspirants Kashim Tumsah and Lawan Kolo Geidam, was convened strictly to deliberate on the need for fairness, equity, and a level playing field ahead of the party’s gubernatorial primaries in Yobe State.

He dismissed rumours that the gathering was aimed at orchestrating a mass exit from the APC to another political platform, particularly the African Democratic Congress (ADC), calling such claims “false, baseless, and unfounded.”

“I remain a committed, loyal, and steadfast member of the APC, fully dedicated to its ideals and objectives,” Bomoi stated.

According to the senator, the meeting focused on reaffirming a collective commitment to due process, in line with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Electoral Act 2022.

He highlighted that the APC recorded significant victories in the 2019 general elections, winning nearly all elective positions, and further consolidated its dominance in 2023 by securing victories in most contests, narrowly losing only one House of Representatives seat.

While reaffirming his loyalty, Senator Bomoi called on the party leadership to ensure strict adherence to internal democracy in the forthcoming primaries.

He emphasised that all aspirants must be given equal opportunity to contest without the imposition of candidates.

The lawmaker also noted that if a consensus arrangement becomes necessary, it must be conducted transparently and inclusively, with the participation of all aspirants and relevant stakeholders to maintain unity within the party.
