The Chairman Senate Committee on Works, Senator Kabiru Gaya has expressed displeasure over the slow pace of ongoing 53 kilometer Agaie-Baro Port Inland waterways road construction.
He noted that only 3km of the road has been completed despite over 2 billion naira released to the contractor.
Senator Gaya handed down the warning while the team of senate committee on works were on oversight function in Katcha local government of Niger state.
He stated that the Baro port project was conceptualized in 1960s hence its President Muhammadu Buhari’s baby and impacted it when he was Petroleum Trust Fund PTF Chairman, but the immediate past administration due to political reasons abandoned the work despite they awarded the contract.
He said that the National Assembly have earmarked budgetary provision for the project, urging the contractor to put on more effort for its logical completion and for its commissioning by next year.
The lawmaker who was optimistic about the project noted that funds has been released for the procurement of equipments for me establishment of the Port hence demanded for the quick completion of the only road to Baro.
The Committee also visited Tatabu bridge construction in Mokwa local government of Niger state where he expressed happiness for the quick intervention of the federal government in finding alternative and for the award of the contract that is almost over 70% completed.
