The Senator representing Plateau North, Pam Mwadkon, has formally resigned from the African Democratic Party (ADP) and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defection was announced on Thursday through a letter addressed to the Senate and read during plenary by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.
In the letter, Senator Mwadkon said his decision followed wide-ranging consultations with his advisers, political associates, and other key stakeholders.
According to him, the move was driven by the need to align with a political platform that best reflects his commitment to good governance, inclusive development, and the overall interests of the people of his senatorial district.
He further explained that his defection was necessitated by what he described as irreconcilable differences and persistent internal challenges within the African Democratic Party, which he said had limited his capacity to effectively uphold the party’s ideals and provide quality representation to his constituents.
Senator Mwadkon expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress offers a more stable and progressive platform that will enable him to continue serving his constituents and the nation with renewed commitment and focus.
“Kindly accept this letter as my formal notification, in line with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and please accept me into the fold of the APC,” he stated.
After reading the defection letter, Senate President Akpabio took a swipe at opposition parties, remarking that many of their remaining members were already looking toward the APC and were only waiting for the right moment to join the ruling party.
