There is a huge setback for the Niger state agricultural revolution policy of governor Mohammed Umar Bago as communities in Zone C Senatorial District of the state rejected its activities fingering efforts to cheat and forcefully confiscate their farmlands.
This is coming on the heels of the ongoing destruction of over 60 hectres of farmlands belonging to some farmers in Mariga, Kampanin Bobi and Durgu communities of Mariga local government area of Niger state.
An eyewitness Musa Sale Bobi told our reporter in Minna that several hectres of farmlands with grown maize were being destroyed by the state government ‘Niger Food’ tractors without compensation.
He added that activities commence on Thursday which is ongoing up till today on the destruction of crops on those lands, saying that over 200 farmers with about 50 hectres of cultivated farmlands have been affected already.
One of the affected farmer, Abubakar Yari Kampanin Bobi in an interview with Prestige FM decried that his 52 years farmland with grown maize covering 2 hectres has been completely destroyed without information nor compensation.
Another victim, Alhaji Sanusi S. Power from Mariga explained that his 23 years farm covers 13 hectres where he applied 21 cartons of chemicals and two and half have gone while his friend’s 30 hectres of farmland have been destroyed too.
Also, Ibrahim Yerima whose 8 hectres of farmlands have been taken over and crops destroyed, called for fairness, justice and sympathy from governor Mohammed Umar Bago.
The victims in there separate interview lamented over lack of enlightenment and information on the part of the state government.
