Shagari loses Sokoto PDP governorship primary rejects result

Despite protest by the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Mukhtar Shagari, over the composition of delegates list for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship primary election in the state, the election held and a former Ambassador to Morocco, Abdallah Wali, emerged winner.
Mr. Wali got 547 votes, while Abubakar Gada got 193 and Mr. Shagari got 1 vote.
Former Minister of Sports, Yusuf Suleiman, withdrew from the race before the election started.
The result of the election was announced by the chairman of the election panel, U. U. Kumo, early Tuesday.
Mr. Shagari had reportedly ordered his supporters to vacate the Stadium, venue of the election when Mr. Kumo declared the results.
Briefing news men, afterwards, Mr. Shagari described the election as “out-right illegality” and called on the National Secretariat of the party to cancel the primary election
.
