Shaibu upbeat as Benjamin Taninu signs two-year contract with Tanzanian club

Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Hon. Phillip Shaibu has expressed confidence that former Bendel Insurance central defender, Benjamin Taninu will succeed in his new club in Tanzania.

Shaibu, in a statement by his Media Assistant, Ben Ogbemudia said Taninu has built an impressive career over the years before completing his move to Singida Black Star of Tanzania.

It could be recalled that Taninu had featured for Crawley Town in England and later played for Maghreb de Fès in Morocco, gaining valuable experience in different football environments.

“The Super Eagles defender is expected to bring his experience, leadership, and defensive qualities to his new club. For many young footballers in Edo State, Taninu’s rise from the domestic league to playing abroad serves as an inspiration.

“His steady progress demonstrates that dedication, discipline, and consistent hard work can open doors to opportunities beyond Nigeria, regardless of one’s background”.

The former Deputy Governor of Wso state further described the defender as a hardworking and disciplined player who has continued to develop throughout his career.

Shaibu recalled that Taninu learned the fundamentals of football while coming through the Bendel Insurance system during his time as Edo State Deputy Governor.

According to him, watching the defender grow from a promising youngster into an international professional has been a source of pride and proof that sustained investment in grassroots sports can produce world-class talent.

The NIS boss also reaffirmed his commitment to youth development through sports, stressing that football and other sporting activities remain powerful tools for empowering young Nigerians irrespective of their social or economic background.
