Former Senator Shehu Sani expressed his sorrow over the tragic loss of 21 athletes from Kano State who died in a motor accident.

These athletes were returning from the recently concluded National Sports Festival held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

In a post on his verified Facebook page, Senator Sani stated, “I watched the video of the scene of the bus accident that claimed the lives of the 21 athletes from Kano. It is a tragedy for Nigeria. They traveled hundreds of kilometers only to perish just moments away from home.

“They made their last calls and sent their final messages before their departure to eternity. They died in active service to their state and country. We have lost a vibrant generation who represented us and were determined to make us proud.”

Senator Sani urged both Kano State and the federal government to do more to support the families of the deceased and to honor their memory. “Streets should be named after them, and a memorial should be established at the site of the accident in their honor. Future generations should know about their sacrifices. While we cannot bring them back to life, we can ensure that their service and sacrifice are never forgotten,” he added.

With tears in his eyes, he addressed the spirits of the deceased, saying, “Thank you for your service to humanity. We appreciate your lives. May Allah forgive their shortcomings and grant them Aljanna Firdausi.”
