The Minister of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, has commended the University of Ilorin over its judicious use of the grants it received from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

Shekarau, gave the commendation while speaking with journalists in Ilorin after he commissioned few capital projects in the institution.

According to the institution, the projects, which cost N1.76 billion, include the researchers’ lodge, which is the first of its kind in the country; the new faculty of education complex and lecture theatre, the ultra-modern multi-purpose hall, the central research laboratories, and the metallurgical engineering lecture and office complex.

Others are: the faculty of agriculture lecture theatre, faculty of law lecture theatre, business school complex and a number of landscaped parking lots.

The Minister, who commissioned the projects on behalf of the visitor to the University, President Goodluck Jonathan, said that he was “greatly impressed by the single-minded commitment of the University administration, under the leadership of Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, to the advancement of the educational goals of the Federal Government.”

Shekarau noted that this virtue has indeed distinguished the University of Ilorin from some of its peers in the country and suggested a change in the University’s “Better by far” slogan to “Best by far”.

Conducting the Minister round the project sites, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, commended the Federal Government on the TETFund Initiative, which, he noted, was a good tonic for the nation’s educational development.

Ambali disclosed that all the grants received were judiciously expended on projects that the University administration believed would advance the attainment of its mandate of teaching, research and community service.
