Shettima Pays Tribute to Tinubu’s Mother, Says Her Legacy Continues to Inspire Nigeria

Date:

Vice President Kashim Shettima has paid glowing tribute to the late Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, mother of President Bola Tinubu, describing her as a woman whose legacy of service, compassion, and leadership continues to inspire generations of Nigerians.

Shettima spoke on Sunday at the Annual Grand Prayer Session held in her honour at the National Mosque, Abuja.

The Vice President said the late Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, who died on June 15, 2013, left an enduring impact through the lives she touched and the institutions she helped to strengthen.

According to him, Mogaji’s values of service and sacrifice played a significant role in shaping President Tinubu’s leadership qualities.

“A mother shaped a leader, and through that leader her values now serve the whole of Nigeria,” Shettima said, noting that the President learned from her that leadership is a trust and must serve the interests of ordinary citizens.

He described Mogaji as a champion of traders and market women, saying she devoted much of her life to protecting their welfare and advancing their economic interests.

“She taught a generation of market women that their work mattered, that their voices carried weight, and that their toil deserved respect,” he added.

The Vice President also expressed confidence that Nigeria would overcome its current security and economic challenges through unity, prayers, and collective commitment, assuring citizens that President Tinubu remains focused on improving security, economic growth, and national welfare.

Earlier, the Convener of the prayer session and Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs and Other Matters, Alhaji Ibrahim Masari, described Mogaji as a woman dedicated to serving humanity.

Masari disclosed that more than 250 hand-pump boreholes had been constructed across nine northern states in her memory.

He also announced plans to establish the Abibatu Mogaji Islamic Centre in Abuja and build a modern Juma’at Mosque in Rigasa, Kaduna State, to honour her legacy.

The event featured special prayers by prominent Islamic scholars for the repose of Mogaji’s soul and for peace, unity, security, and economic prosperity in Nigeria.
