Mr Hassan Bello, the ExecutiveSecretary, Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), yesterday called for collaboration between the council and terminal operators.
Bello spoke in Lagos at the inaugural meeting of the Council (NSC) with Seaport Terminal Operators of Nigerian (STOAN) after the council was appointed to act and function as a regulatory body.
He said that the focus of the meeting was to ensure that investors in the maritime industry were protected and made profitable.
He said that the NSC was appointed to oversee and ensure “synchronisation and equilibrium” in the process of doing business in the ports.
“We are going to be neutral, just and fair to all; that is the only way this country will grow. We will do our duty faithfully and effectively.
“There are so many interests in the port system. That is why the council is appointed to play the role of regulatory body,’’ the executive secretary said.
He said that the council, as an umpire, would be firm and ensure fairness in the industry and urged the stakeholders to collaborate with the NSC.
Mrs Vicky Haastroupe, President of STOAN, said that operators were in need of a regulatory body to protect and ensure that policies improved businesses. (NAN)
