The Solid Miners were undone by their former player, Kamal Adegoke, despite putting up a resilient fight-back in a 3-2 loss against the Oluyole Warriors at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan, Oyo State on Sunday evening.
The hosts took the lead in the 6th minute courtesy of Lucky Emmanuel. The attacker increased the goal tally to 2-0, nineteen minutes later, before Ugochukwu Leonard halved the deficit heading into the break.
It was game on in the 57th minute when Habibu Alakija’s witty ball beat the ingenuity of GodsGift Elkanah in goal for Shooting Stars to even the scoreline to 2-2.
The hosts were awarded a penalty in the 66th minute, but Kamal Adegoke would strike the woodwork, giving United a lifeline.
Sabbath Mancha and Ifeanyi Okechukwu’s efforts on goal got saved by the home side goaltender.
United, however, conceded in the dying minutes of the game as Kamal Adegoke made up for his penalty miss with a clinical finish, returning his side to the lead, a scoreline they held until the full-time whistle, to the disappointment of the travellers, as they remain on 6th position with 53 points, while Shooting Stars moved up to the 2nd position with 57 points from 36 games apiece.
Nasarawa United will return to Lafia where they will host neighbours, Plateau United, next Sunday, behind closed doors, with the hope of reigniting their winning mentality, before concluding the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League Season with a trip to Kano where they will face Barau FC.
