The wife of the Sokoto State Governor, Hajiya Fatima Ahmed Aliyu, has distributed N17 million in cash alongside food items and baby-care supplies to 17 mothers of triplets across the state.
Organized by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, the initiative aims to ease the financial burden on families with multiple births and ensure adequate care and nutrition for the newborns.
Represented at the Government House ceremony by the Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Hajiya Khadija Ahmad Shagari, the First Lady described children as blessings from God, emphasizing that multiple births should be celebrated rather than viewed as a financial strain.
Each of the 17 beneficiaries received N1 million cash assistance,
5 bags of grains, 3 bags of rice, 2 bags of millet, 30 sets of baby clothes, diapers, a carton of milk, soap, and 10 sets of guinea brocade for each mother.
Hajiya Fatima urged the mothers to utilize the funds and materials specifically for the healthcare, feeding, and overall well-being of their triplets, while calling on wealthy individuals to support vulnerable households across the state.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Aliyu Ladan Isa, noted that the intervention aligns with broader state welfare initiatives.
He highlighted recent ministry achievements, including empowering 500 women with livelihood interventions, reaching over 16,000 individuals through N-CARES cash transfers, and renovating and upgrading the Women Development Centre into a modern facility.
The beneficiaries were selected across nine Local Government Areas: Shagari, Gwadabawa, Tangaza, Yabo, Gada, Wurno, Goronyo, Wamakko, and Binji.
